Natural Disasters: Wrath of God?
Are the hurricanes and earthquakes that we see today just unfortunate weather patterns or a direct judgment of God on a sinful world? Use scripture to back up your arguments.

I think it could depend. But on a place like New Orleans, they have chosen to lead a life of sinfulness before Hurricane Katrina. There were many who were deliberate in practicing voodoo and such. I think it could be safe to say that God, in my opinion, did pour out His judgment on New Orleans. Romans 1:18 says "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them." Basically, it says that men are without excuse. Now, I know the all over the world, people deliberately disobey God. And I believe that God caused that Hurricane in N.O. but what is to say that God would not cause a Hurricane to come on the West Coast, because I'm sure the denial they have there, is the same denial people have here. And it's not just denial, but choosing to ignore His creation.

This is a hard question. I do think that places like New Orleans are deep in many kinds of sins, if we just look at there mardygraw(spelling?) we can see that. But if we look elsewhere there are even worse sins, example being Las Vegas (aka "sin city"). All humans are sinful and our nature is naturally bent towards sin so places where there is little to know gospel this is to be expected. But, whether or not this is God's judgement I really dont think we can say. It very well could be an just act of God to punish, but It very well could have just been something that happened. I think in general God's acts of wrath have been subsided by the blood of Christ (we talked about in class how God poored out his wrath onto his son rather than on mankind). So in conclusion, it could be, personally I think it unlikely but overall I dont think it is for us to say who is deserving of God's wrath and who is the recipient of God's wrath. In romans it tells us that God is the judge and not us. So yep.

I don't think that these are a direct result of a certain sin, or sins. I think they do all stem from the fact we live in a cursed world, and because of that fact we have things such as earthquakes and hurricanes. So I guess what I am trying to say is that, they are a result of sin (Adam and Eve's) but not a judgment from God because a place is particularly sinful, or ungodly. If that were the case why are there more tornados in the Midwest and not places like Palestine, or as Cameron mentioned Las Vegas?
I think to say that earthquake and storms are result of God judgement us not because the bible does talk about it Genesis during the story of the flood and Noah protection by the Lord. However at the end of that story God says he will never destroy the earth in that way again. So in that aspect earthqakes and storms are not a result of God judgement, but humanity has things like earthquakes and storms because of the result of sin. Man would of never knew of earthquakes or storms, if he did not sin.
